It is very important to preserve our history and also to protect it. It is also important to have groups, such as ACAMUTS, who understand and appreciate our heritage, to protect it and make it more accessible to the general public.

On Sunday, November 7, 2021, several members of the Society ventured to Roxbury and did a fantastic undertaking of a general cleanup of the settlement … including the two cemeteries and erecting teepees around a number of wells.

The area, now referred to as Roxbury, was once occupied by Mi’kmaq, French Acadian and finally by English Loyalists at the turn of the 1800s. The last inhabitants, homesteaders in the 1920s, only stayed for a few years. Since then the area has attracted hunters, fishermen, campers and the curious. From the 1970s onward Roxbury, originally called Durland’s Settlement, has become a hikers challenge, ATV trip, skidoo outing or a truck/car trek. But overall it remains a place of lure and mystery. One always asks who settled there and why!

Thanks again to ACAMUTS and its members for keeping the doors of history open.

Work has officially begun on #264 aka "Kate Tucker Trail"

If possible, please avoid travel on this trail until it firms up. Keep an eye on the Sunrise Trails ATV Club Facebook page for updates.

If your craving for a Nelly's Burger cannot be denied, please use this trail respectfully to avoid reversing the work already completed.

Work being done includes 4 culverts and many km's of ditching and surface hardening.

This trail connects the 260 (Railbed) to 2 of our trailside dining options, The Sandpiper and Nelly's Grill.

We have received notice from the Municipality of Chester that the Gold River Bridge will be closed immediately due to structural issues identified by the engineers.

The bridge will be closed to ALL users for an indefinite period of time until repairs/replacement can be completed.

More details to follow as things are assessed, and a plan is compiled as to what will happen moving forward. The Municipality realizes this is an important part in connectivity and is working towards a solution.

The Small Grant program funds 50% of a project, the other 50% is the clubs responsibility through labour, in kind, etc.

Each year ATVANS manages the ATVANS Small Project Grant Program. This year $100,000 has been set aside for small local projects. Clubs can apply for up to $5000 per project with matching funds or in-kind labour. This program is administered by Corey Robar (trails coordinator) and has oversight from the ATVANS Trails Committee.

Clubs should contact Corey Robar prior to starting any work to see if their project is eligible. This program is an important tool for building and maintaining our trail network. For more details contact Corey Robar at trails@atvans.org.  All unused funds are not carried forward.
