The All-Terrain Vehicle Association of Nova Scotia (ATVANS) is pleased to announce that we have signed an interprovincial reciprocal agreement with OFATV QuadON. This means that residents of Nova Scotia with an ATVANS Trail Permit will be able to ride the trails managed under OFATV QuadON and likewise for members of OFATV. This is another great step for our interprovincial collaboration, creating more riding opportunities for riders in both provinces while supporting tourism. ATVANS already have reciprocal agreements with QuadNB (New Brunswick) and RidePEI (Prince Edward Island ATV Federation). With the addition of OFATV we now have agreements with four provinces in Canada.

This agreement would not have been possible without the support and hard work of our many club volunteers, the commitment and efforts of our board and president (Kevin Lombard) and the cooperation of our partners at OFATV QuadON. Agreements like this not only add value to becoming a member of ATVANS but demonstrate our commitment to great partnership that enhances riding opportunities for our sport and members.

We look forward to welcoming our friends from OFATV when public health guidance and travel restrictions allow. We also look forward to visiting and riding the trails managed by QuadON in the near future.

ATVANS supports safe, responsible and organized ATV riding in Nova Scotia through our 42 member clubs and over our 11,000 kilometers of mapped trails. Information on ATVANS, our member clubs and how to join can be found on our website at www.atvans.org

Each year ATVANS manages the ATVANS Small Project Grant Program. This year $100,000 has been set aside for small local projects. Clubs can apply for up to $5000 per project with matching funds or in-kind labour. This program is administered by Corey Robar (trails coordinator) and has oversight from the ATVANS Trails Committee.

Clubs should contact Corey prior to starting any work to see if their project is eligible. This program is an important tool for building and maintaining our trail network. For more details contact Corey Robar at trails@atvans.org.  All unused funds are not carried forward.

Please be advised that trail 5 / 104 from Collingwood to Cleveland Lake will be closed on the 15th October 2020 for an indefinite period of time. This is for trail work and bridge replacement at Sherman Brook.

On the 106 trail just north of Marinette, the Sheet Harbour club has completed the construction of a bridge to replace the aging Jack Lowe bridge.

ATVANS Welcomes New Club - West Richmond Riders Association

ATVANS recently voted to accept a new club into our growing network of clubs across Nova Scotia. West Richmond Riders Association will fill a needed gap and help create connectivity from Port Hawkesbury to existing clubs northeast in Richmond County. ATVANS is the third largest ATV federation in Canada with clubs in all regions of Nova Scotia. Even during these difficult, unsure times we continue to attract new members through our online registration system.

ATVANS now has 42 member clubs.

We were off to a slow start but the clubs have begun some projects around the province with more in the works.

The Small Grant Budget Funding Has been received for 2020.

Dear Barry, 

Thank you for taking the time for our phone call on April 21^st. 

As we discussed, due to the current COVID-19 pandemic situation all Nova Scotians are being asked to stay at home as much as possible and avoid non-essential travel and activities.  This means that at this time outdoor recreational activities such as hiking, fishing and ATV riding should not happen.  It is also important that Nova Scotians know that at this time all provincial parks and trails are closed to the public. 

I recognize that what we are asking all Nova Scotians to do to limit the spread and impact of COVID-19 may be difficult, but at present it is critical to continue with these restrictive measures.  Please know that I will be looking to slowly open up outdoor recreational activities as soon as this can be done safely.  

I will be communicating this information directly to Nova Scotians in the coming days during my daily briefings. Your willingness to communicate directly to your members, and if possible, the ATV riding community in Nova Scotia is greatly appreciated. 

I have also asked my colleagues at Nova Scotia Environment to continue their compliance activities regarding outdoor recreational activities.
