    ATVANS SMALL GRANTS AVAILABLE 2019

Each year ATVANS manages the ATVANS Small Project grant program. This year $100,000 has been set aside for small local projects. Clubs can apply for up to $5000 per project with matching funds or in-kind labour. This program is administered by Corey Robar (trails coordinator) and has oversight from the ATVANS trails committee.

Clubs should contact Corey prior to starting any work to see if their project is eligible. This program is an important tool for building and maintaining our trail network. For more details contact Corey Robar at trails@atvans.org.  All unused funds are not carried forward.

The Coastal Riders ATV Club recently held a Claude Martell Memorial Fun Run in L’Ardoise on February 23, 2019. The $1600 raised was equally divided and presented by Marie Prout, club president, and members of Claude’s family earlier this week. The recipients were Grand River Volunteer Fire Department, L’Ardoise Legion Army Cadets, St. Peter’s Silver Dart Air Cadets, Adult Drop-in Center lunch fund, L’Ardoise Social Action, St. Peter’s and Area Food Bank, EREC Breakfast fund and Richmond Academy Breakfast fund.

We would like to thank everyone who donated either monetarily or by volunteering their time. Weather permitting the run will take place again next year. (Photo credit to JoePop Images)

    Thanks,
    Marie

The St Margarets Bay Rails to Trails and the Beechville Lakeside Timberly Rails to Trails are currently closed to ATV use due to the spring thaw.

All riders should respect this closure and allow things to dry and firm up before use resumes, this will help to prevent any possible damage due to the soft conditions.

Please pass along this info to any riders you may know who may not be aware of the closure.

See attached map for the location of this closure.

    ATVANS Lottery 2019

The 2019 lottery is now in the books and planning for the 2020 lottery is well under way. I want to congratulate the winners and thank the volunteers who worked so hard to make this year’s lottery the best ever. A special thanks to Tom Arnold for organizing the lottery and a big shout out to Pictou County for being the top selling club.

The winners have all been notified and prizes will be delivered in the coming weeks. Congratulations to Gertrude Sampson from Louisdale on winning the GRAND PRIZE Yamaha Wolverine side by side worth over $20,000 including taxes. William Foulkes from Herring Cove takes home the Yamaha generator/invertor and Blake Shearer from Upper Belmont won the Yamaha power washer.

I would also like to thank Pat Hicks and Yamaha Canada along with the Nova Scotia Yamaha dealers for their tremendous support. The funds raised help support trail development, club activities and grow the sport of organized ATVing in Nova Scotia.

This year’s Atlantic Outdoor Sports and RV Show was a huge success, we signed up dozens of new members, helped folks with maps and questions and advanced our sport and organization. We also recognized International Women’s Day by handing out hats at the booth on Friday, a big hit with attendees of the show.

    Thanks

    Barry Barnet
    Executive Director ATVANS
